It's December 1st, and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the Bigler home. Christmas music is blaring and our fresh Christmas tree is up and decorated with lights, pine cones, berries and a little "sprinkle" as my niece called it. :) Right now I am taking a big deep breath....ahhh, the smell of Christmas! I've decorated the mantel, complete with stockings, and Marty has been working on our outside display of Christmas lights. I really do love this time of year, and not because of the presents (although, I'll be honest and say I do like surprises). I love the lights. I love the smells (pine and fresh baked cookies to name just two). I love how people slow down a bit. They take more time for family and friends, and perhaps reflect on what is most important in their lives. Christmas has a way of bringing people together unlike any other time of the year it seems.
It's more than just about giving a gift. The miracle of the birth of Jesus is the whole "reason for the season." I know, I sound so cliche, but I believe it with all my heart. So the wonder, joy and peace last way beyond the unwrapping of gifts for me.
PS Here is one of my most precious gifts, and my helper this year. As I put things on the tree, she took them off. After putting things back on the tree and taking a deep breath, I realized what precious memories I will have forever!
